I'm putting a deposit down on that first thing tomorrow morning. It's about as sexy as Rosie O'Donnell.   Looks like a soap box racer on steroids.

BMW always clads their new rides in a "test mule body" which is what that is. Dual pipes look promising. I always love how BMW shows you "yes, our 5 series wagon can pull things".

They are testing the chassis. You don't need a body to tweak the chassis and basic elements of handling...

Amen.

I have always liked how BMW puts so much of cladding on their test mules so that we get out of curiousity thinking of how the car will really look. I know that in fact this car hasn't got a designed body yet, but I'm talking about the X5 & X6.

Well the design for the new Z8 has already been finalized and frozen. However, its just a waste of time for BMW to build and test full body prototypes at this time while they tweak out the chassis. (because its easier to work on this chassis, cheaper and gives BMW more time to hide its final design direction)

The mule we see here is the very first generation of early prototypes. The X6 has reached the end of its prototype stage. The test mules driven around are now full-spec cars, simply covered with lots and lots of camo. I agree, that BMW of late has been doing a very good job at hiding their cars with lots of camo. The E70 being a prime example (car with camo did not look anything like the final product).
