Interesting. I've always heard that the 2 series would have been based on the E87's successor platform...

Which is interesting, because having debuted in 2004 the platform will be quite old by the time the coupes & convertibles hit the market...

A couple of things to note:

1. The prototypes have evolved into the tape form, which means they are far along in development.

2. The rear lights look like they resemble the E92, rather then the CS1's initial rendering...

Should be an awesome car, none the less... can't wait!

It will most probably be called 2-series when its hits US. ;)

really? Where'd you hear that? I would think it's odd if there was a 228i or a 235i. Just sounds weird.
Oh, and in the March 07 issue of Motor Trend there's a full page article on a BMW "Sportvan" called the F5 built off the 5, and an F3 off the 3.
They said 2009 for the F5, and 2010 for the F3.
But those names aren't final, and I don't think people want cars that sound like keys on a keyboard....

New BMW models coming out will have platform references like F01, F02, and so on, similar to the E92 as an example (they ran out of digits for E platforms). I understand that the space-functional concept (what BMW engineers call a minivan, or people-mover) will be sold as V models, aligned with the X (AWD) and Z (sports).

Hmm, not really feeling it IMO. Reminds me of the 318ti :)

trueX5er 02-04-2007 10:03 AM

oh, guess I didn't.

OH! I see! It sounded like they were going to call it the F5. I understand it now that I know it is just the code.

What's that following the coupe? Is that a 4-door? where's the pix? The coupe's roofline looks odd, almost ricey. It could almost pass for a Civic from the A pilar back.
