Cold-start whistling noise on E46 330xi?

When I start my 2003 E46 in the cold, the revs go up high and make a strange noise when they're settling. Then for a long time after I start driving, the car whistles when I accelerate. It sounds like a jet. Has anyone heard of a problem like this?

Yea, it's pretty common with BMWs. It's usually a sign of the oil separator going bad. Pull the dip stick out while it's running and see if it sucks in air and/or dies.

Thanks, V! I have to take it in to the dealer for an oil service soon, I'll have it checked out.

I've noticed a little higher exhaust note and a slight whine...

Hmm.. I'll try pulling the dip stick while my engine is on too...
