Rumor has it that the E92 M3 will have DSG...
 

Hmmm, there has been a rumor floating around the web that when BMW showcases the new M3 in Geneva, it will introduce DSG (dual clutch system) instead of SMG.

If they fine-tune it for speed and smoothness, it will definitely be an improvement over SMG.

Of course, BMW should also have a 6-speed manual available for the M3 as well.

We all know it will be a V8 with around 420-hp, but how heavy will be the new M3 be??

I guess we'll find out next week!

There will be different HP for regular and CSL version as well as placement of rear license plate, diffuser, carbon-fiber roof, etc. Pics are coming on Tuesday.;)

Lets just hope that with a manual tranny they don't do someting like they did with the current M5 in the 6speed manual.

Is the CSL coming out at the same time as the regular M3. If they both come out at the same time im definately getting the CSL.
I hope they dont get rid of the 7 speed SMG for the DSG. I dont like DSG for a car like and M3. If they only offer DSG and not SMG I will get the 6 speed manual.
So why would the rear diffuser and carbon roof be different?

CSL is coming later but that can still change. SMG is gooone. US may not have rear diffuser. Carbon roof is for CSL version. More info here .

So what trannies will be offered in place of the smg. Also are the M^ and M5 dropping SMG too?

So why are we not getting that rear diffuser? So far every Mcar from 2000 on has had the same front and rear diffusers in all countries. Why the change? Even the current M5/6 all have the same exteriors all over the world. Doesnt make sense.

That sucks that the carbon roof is only for CSL. Is it to keep cost down?

Carbon roof is to reduce weight. CSL is coming to US for sure. Did you know that there will be M6 CSL?

Yes I new about the M6 CSL. But the regular one has a carbon roof already. Thats why I assumed that all versions of the M3 would have the carbon roof too.

So what about th trannies and the rear diffuser I asked about. Any more info on that?

No more info, BMW is very tight lipped. Regular may still get carbon roof if they change their mind.

I bet they will all have carbo roof. It will probably be more of a pain in the ass for them to do steel and carbon roofs.

how bad can it be?? 6 M5's at my local dealer bought back for SMG issues.. can't get into reverse, delayed clutch engagement.. reliability is horrid. I still think the 335i is a better alternative as a beater.. as a weekend car.. thumbs down..

I actually am getting a 335 6 speed coupe. I just ordered it. But im still getting the M3.

Well, my '04 M3 with SMG II is doing well at 55K miles. No problem like your M3, but then mine is a '04.

yup... it's chipped. nothing wrong with my M3.. it's the M5's that was a POS. Even the regional rep from BMW after the fact admitted that across the nation, it's pretty evident SMGIII was not ready for primetime. That's all he ever deals with besides the gamut of 7 series electrical gremlin issues also.

Well if you actually read the thread yourself you would realize that it says there is a rumor the M3 will have DSG. I wanted to know if anyone has heard anything concrete that says the rumor is true or not. And since I didnt get a reply I guess the rumor is the best im getting for now. So the only problem is that you misread or didnt read the post clearly enough to realize what exactly was said and what exactly i was asking.

6 speed manual will be available from GA , double clutch (DSG, including the ability to choose different driving programs/settings) will follow later on.

first of all Sanguru GFY! It was a rumor and I was asking if anyone had definate info from another source. Facts do comeout before a car is in the showrooms. Not everyone has the same info and if one person heard a rumor maybe someone else on here knows it to be true as a fact.

About the 335. I havnt been on here in a while and havnt seen the other threads and was asking you how you liked the chip since you actually have one. I didnt feel like doing a search because it would be faster to ask you. Sorry i dont have a profession that allows me to read car forums 24/7 like yours obviously. I can buy what ever i want but I actually have to work for my money.
Other people may have talked about the 335 already. But I havnt and I actually just ordered the car 2 days ago. If you dont feel like taking the time to share your experience with me than again GFY and I will search when i have time to do so.

DSG is a rumor that has been floating around the internet, but as JAN states, most likely the 6-speed manual will come out first (BMW learned their lesson re: M5/M6 SMG-only option) and hopefully BMW will get thier first-gen DSG right....

Since you don't like DSG, go for the 6-speed manual. You can't go wrong with 420hpish V8 with a 6-speed manual.
