Pretty big impulse buy (with a question)

With all the snow we got this winter I decided I needed a car that can deal with all that crap ... so I bought a Z4 M friday night ;)

I recently got my permit (getting a SSN, while dealing with immigration and a work related move for my wife, took more than a year). Long story short - I needed a car and I really like the Z4 M, so I was planning on ordering one.

My wife and I went to the dealer, just to look. We like doing that every once in a while. This Z4 M had been sitting there in the showroom for quite a while (it's a new 06) and it was not the car I would have spec'ed had I ordered it - but the price the dealer suggested was just too damn good to pass on - so we bought it, and had them drive our X5 home, while we went to dinner in the Z4 :)

My wife is not a fan of the manual gearbox - but she has the X5 so she didn't really care what I chose. I love the car so far - not regretting the purchase one bit :) It is soo much fun to drive and I must say it looks pretty good :)

A question though - is there anything I should be aware of after the car sitting in the showroom for a while? I am guessing at least 3 months, likely more. They did put in a new battery, and there is nothing I can pick up on that is wrong. I am taking it in for floor mats (they were free, but out of stock) and a wind deflector install soon - so if there is anything that needs checking that would be a good time.

Anywho - here are some pics :) (didn't get a good exterior shot - will add that later)

- edit - added pics

Very nice purchase! I'm sure you'll have tons of fun with the car as I did when I drove it at the BMW Performance Center during an ///M Driving Experience.

Aww the old S54 rammed in the Z4, got to love it.

Enjoy.

Awesome car.

Was it sold new? or as a 'Used' car? The reason I ask is because BMW dealers were given up to $11,000 in dec 06' - jan 07' to help clear unsold 06 Z4's...

And i'm curious How good of a deal did you get?

I love the Z4 and because the prices are falling very fast, they might not be out of my price range for much longer... :)

Sweet! Congrats. I was cozying down in the driver's seat of the M Coupe at the auto show last Friday. Very tempting.

Sold as a new car - we got 13k off the prize of similar '07 model - 44k vs 57k $ - was on the floor for 48k

cpatzer 03-19-2007 10:42 PM

That thing is a beauty. Congrats

I miss my ///M Roadster almost every day. I would just get scared when I had a Ford Expedition bearing down on me from behind.

Definetly an AWESOME CAR!

DINANM3 03-19-2007 11:15 PM

Not bad, not bad. You did get a good deal then. Congrats. Makes it that much more worth it... :)

It is a small car - even a regular sedan looks pretty big in the rearview mirror :) It's all perspective though - I think people tailgate me as much in the X5 as in the Z4 - so I just try to not get worked up over it and accept it as a fact of life, no matter how big of a grille they got :)

vinuneuro 03-20-2007 11:57 AM

Very nice. Congrats

It's almost a car that makes you want to live in the country. All those winding roads.;)

Seems that there was - last night the SES light came on - everything runs great, so doubt it is anything serious. Not like it should be vomiting parts after reaching 300 miles doing break-in driving :)

Anyone ever have something pop up that soon on their cars?

Wagner 03-21-2007 08:10 AM

Did the SES clear itself after you turned the car off and restarted it? If it cleared, you are probably fine. I had this happen one time with my X and it never happened again.

The only issue to watch is that the battery may be drained a little bit from sitting, this was the case with my 545.

I am hoping it is just the battery - but no - the light remains - tried letting it sit for a few hours last night, and then tried again this morning - it's still on. I need to go in to get the floormats anyways, so I figured they could atleast tell me what triggered it. If it is not serious, hopefully it can wait until the break-in inspection at 1200 miles.

Wagner 03-21-2007 08:21 AM

Well it is actually a plus that it stayed on since you're going to the dealer anyway. They can read to code since the compute is still holding it. No worries.

Got to love an "M" car

Great purchase and an awesome deal. Keep the revs under 5K for the first 1200 miles. Once the 1200 miles service is completed, let it rip. Can't go wrong with that "M" motor.

Cheers

It doesn't matter if the light stays on or night - codes are always stored in the DME and can be read by the GT1. Just so long as the CEL doesn't flash, there are no driveability issues.

Not always true, mine wasn't stored.

Looks really good! Make sure to take a sanitization wipe and wpe down the steering wheel and the shifter because if people sat inside and touched the wheel and then sneezed on it ... eww... haha, have fun with it and don't get pulled over too often!

If the error does not reappear for 3 consecutive drives then the light will turn off, but no worries as the code will still be stored in the computer...

SES lights will stay on for a while, even if the problem is no longer occurring.

Either way, on a brand new car you should get it checked out...

trueX5er 03-21-2007 05:06 PM

nice ride...
which dealer was it at?

Motor Werks - They've been very helpful so far - they have us scheduled for tomorrow morning to check out the problem.

It is only a yellow light - so will do a grocery run tonight and see if it remains. Good tip about the 3 drives :)

vinuneuro 03-21-2007 07:43 PM

Motorwerks is a great dealer for sales and service. A fantastic service advisor is Brian Swenson.

ravenheart 03-23-2007 11:57 AM

Everything was taken care of :) Was several issues - one was low battery and one was gas-cap related - oddly enough they did some rewiring for that. They also did a computer reset and activated the bluetooth.

We took it for a trip afterwards and everything is ok :) Yay - lots of motoring to come - already have 800 miles on it :)
