is 3er ok for snowy winter?
hi im thinking about getting either 335i coupe or 335i hardtop, right now my daily is x5 and its great for winter here in canada but is the 3er gonna be ok?
safety is my first issue (perhaps the 328xi is better?) and im also worried about the car becoming a snow plower if snow is too deep cuz it gets like that sometimes on city and highway roads. if the 3er aint gonna cut it my 2nd choice would be 07 x3, but i love the style of the 3 coupe :D thanks in advance. |
There will be a 335xi coupe for MY2008 and there is already a 335xi sedan. Snow tires are a requisite regardless of drivetrain. Buy what you want and then reserve a set of snow tires/rims.
Now, if its deep snow, ground clearance will be the issue. But you already have an X5 for those days. |
After living in Montana for 9 years I was driving circles around all the midwest soccor moms in their suvs with my rear wheel 330ci. DSC was a must, and all weather tires worked great, but I was never in anything too deep here.
That being said, if BMW had been making a AWD coupe when I was shopping I would have jumped all over it. I agree with Arz above. Wait 4 or 5 months for the 2008's to come out. |
My M3 doesn't see snowfall like that of Canada, but it has seen many snowy, crappy, unplowed roads. Snow tires are your best friend. In Canada, I don't even think I'd consider all seasons for the winter.
Clearance is the biggest issue as pointed out above, but a good set of snow tires and common sense is all you need. I recommend Nokian Hakkapalitta. |
I had snow tires on my 330Ci and my GF has snow tires on her M3 and we never had any problem getting around. They are pretty good with plowing in Boston and surrounding metro area so we have never had to drive in the deep stuff.
Like you said, clearance will be your biggest problem. My 330 front spoiler was beat up pretty badly after snowplowing on occasion. |
My 330ci has no snow tires on it and it sat all winter, wouldnt move an inch!!! My brother has a 325i that has blizzak's on it and it went fine, so snow tires are a must

335xi..... ooohhhhhhhhhhhhhh
|
We have an m3 with 17inch blizzaks... It has great braking traction but theres plenty off wheels sping during acceleration
|
hi this may sound like a dumb question but bigger the wheel, higher the ground clearance right? thanks.
