335Xi Loaner Car Today
Got a 335Xi for a loaner car today. Impressions:
- Engine loves to be revved high and pulls strong from 4K to 8K. - Turbo lag is very slight, if at all. You get a little bit of grunt as you travel the torque curve early on but then you quickly hit 3-4K RPM and the power really kicks in. Whoooosh! :zoom: - This engine should be tossed into the X3 as an IS model. - The twin turbo V8 should be tossed into the E70 as an IS model. - Then, the X6 can be used as the "I don't want a soccermom-sized SAV; but I DO want a high seating position in an auto that will run with the M5" type of car. ;) I should send this thought to Munich!!! |
Great writeup, I hope they give me a 335 next time I get service, I would love to whip that thing around town for a day or 2

I just had a 335i as a loner, amazingly fast but I can't STAND the hill-assist feature, it drives me nuts!

I wish I got any BMW for a loaner......:damn:. Lucky bastards. Then again, the fewer times the X3 goes in for service, the better.

Hey, one other cool point about the 335: When I was downshifting the manumatic tranny it would blip the throttle to match the revs with the upcoming lower gear - without me touching the accelerator. Very cool!
At 45MPH - shifting from 3rd to 2nd gear it would quickly push up the revs from 3500 to 4200 just as quickly as I tapped the shifter northward. |
you lucky eff!
i was sold as soon as I heard the exhaust note... but yet theres a 328xi sitting there.... |

But is it better than a Volvo? |
i like it more than my fmr. volvo. Really helps when you're on an onramp for rte. 128 in Boston. |
