thinking about trading in the 335!

I am thinking af trading it in on a M5. Very hard decision, should it be?

xnsf 08-28-2007 04:12 PM

i love the M5,

but didn't you just get the 3? ...are you sure? it better not be another hummer-fiasco ;)

The Cleaner 08-28-2007 05:17 PM

M5's are not selling very well form what I have read, you can probably get a deal.

rickp 08-28-2007 06:01 PM

How about waiting for the E90 M3 Sedan?

buschy 08-28-2007 06:32 PM

yeah I just got the 3, but its small and bumpy.

I honestly dont think the new m3 will be much of an upgrade to the 335, jsut my opinoin

dr.jay 08-28-2007 07:27 PM

Well you have 20's on it right and its dropped right? That may be the bumpyness, I have an appt to take an M5 for a ride this saturday, not buying(test ride may change that) but if I do I have to part with my X5 and I dont want to. I say go take one for a spin and see if its bumpier than your 3. I do agree the 3 is very small, especially if you have any size to you, I took a 335i for a ride then a 535 and the difference was night and day!!!

LeMansX5 08-28-2007 08:03 PM

Good deals on M5 these days. And its facelifted now.

Wagner 08-28-2007 08:16 PM

M5 is sweet but you could get a Caddy V Series that would run right beside it for 20G's less :)

Unless you over-flow-eth with cash you would probably be taking a hit. Probably not a smart move IMO.

vinuneuro 08-28-2007 09:08 PM

Is there a V version of the new CTS? That chassis is supposed to be pretty good now. Hopefully, GM doesn't have quality issues this time around with the V.

Wagner 08-28-2007 09:34 PM

There was before, so I'm sure there will be. That CTS V is a BEAST IMO.

DINANM3 08-28-2007 09:43 PM

The M5 and 335 are very far apart. totally different cars. If you can afford to take the hit on the 335 which you will since you just bought it. just go for it. The M5s are moving slow and you may get a good deal. I think they are doing 3.9% financing until the end of the month.

Ive been looking around for cars and have been to 4 dealers in 2 weeks. Every dealer had 1 or 2 M5s sitting on the lot that they couldnt move.
They said that the best sellers right now are the 335, 535 and 550 sports.

SANguru 08-28-2007 10:06 PM

I came from a E60 M5.. I would highly recommend NOT doing it. The 335 is a MUCH MUCH better car. Do a search on my E60 M5 thread. Ended up lemon lawing it just like many on the M5 board. Just not reliable, horrible gas guzzler (6 mpg around town and 140-160 mile cruising range on a tank) SMGIII is a disaster, and a lot of the motors were burning a quart of oil betwen 500-1000 miles. Not a good sign. Much happier with the 335i. BTW, the M5 feels like a pig even in sports mode and EDCII. You will also be a little dissapointed with the torque around town. You don't get much of a push until after 4500-5000rpm as opposed to the instant torque of the 335i.. (of course proceded and intercoolers make an incredible difference too!)

trueX5er 08-28-2007 10:09 PM

No...don't get an M5. Be satisfied with the 335i, it is a great vehicle. If the ride is too harsh, put on smaller wheels (20'' is crazy). Did you get the sport package? Did you drive the car before buying? If it is too smal why didn't you get a 530 or 535? Just wondering....

buschy 08-29-2007 11:31 AM

I have 19 on the car and they ride better then the stock 18 RFT. its not dropped either.
yes I test drove it. and I got it casue I had three vehicles and it was not going to be driven everyday, but my wife said having three vehicles was dumb and I obugh ther and x5 and with the price of the x5 I dont need an extra vehicle.
anyway we will see what happens I guess. I have time before I do it if I do it so lets see what comes up in the next few months.
dont hate me but I am thinking the 335 might be good to keep and get a P-car to put in the garage, heh. would like to see the new gt2

if you're not on the short list for a Gt2 and you've haven't owned a Gt3, GT3RS, turbo or Carrera GT, good luck getting it.. ;)

buschy 08-29-2007 04:35 PM

I just left porsche and I could get on the list but I don't think I like porsche. sorry
I drove a carrera and honestly didnt feel better then my 335 and didnt feel faster either.
they had a turbo but , couldnt drive it and it was specked out to $160k, the dude that ordered it backed out and they kept his $10k deposit so anyone interested can get $10k off, good deal I guessm if you like all the crazy options he put on it.
I guess I need a run in a Turbo or gt3 anyone around me have one?

trueX5er 08-29-2007 05:40 PM

Old Guy has a new GT3 (I think) and B-Line has a Turbo.

cpatzer 08-29-2007 06:11 PM

Don't do it. If you really want to go the ///M5 route, buy an E39, trust me on this one.

buschy 08-29-2007 08:53 PM

I just got back from driving the carrera then I drove the z4m and I would buy the z way before I bought the porsche, the z is very fun, and may be in my future and jsut keep the 335, two cars instead of one m5 probably better, doesnt solve the issue but two is better then one right?

I would think that one "practical" car and one "sports" car is better than a "practical sports car", which dosen't really make sense.
Was the M a coupe or Roadster?

SANguru 08-29-2007 10:10 PM

uh.. dude.. there is NO list. You either have an allocation or you don't. BTW, you drove the wrong car... just ask drex, world of a difference between a 997S and a regular 997... and of course if you get a gt3. BLine has a turbo and OldGuy has a 997 GT3 and they can chime in... and btw.. 160K for a turbo??? even if it had ceramics, that's way overpriced.

What do you mean there is no list? I could have put a deposit dwn and gotten one, that is what I meant, maybe the guy lied.
What I drove was the 911 carrera s. I thought it was lacking. I am sorry if I offend anyone, but I drove a porsche about 15 years ago and didnt like it. I drove this one and walked away with the same feeling.
Maybe the turbo or gt would be different, but as of now I would not buy one, I dont think.

SANguru 08-30-2007 01:18 PM

~500 GT2's worldwide. All spoken for at this point. The guy is lying. Some dealers are not even getting 1 and no offense, guys who call it "911 carrera" are well not porsche guys.. :nanana: It's a 997S. BTW, these cars are never about straight line speed. It's about how easily you can rotate car around and get on the power early.

ok the 997s, my bad, and like I said I am not a porsche guy, but I was willing to change that. I know they are not about straight line speed, but like I said it just didnt do it for me. I think that there are jsut some other cars I would pic before a porsche, now that I have driven one. of course, I didnt drive the Turbo which is really the best looking one imo, well and the gt2(which I guess I couldnt get) and the gt3.
and that turbo they had for $160k msrp, is way to much money I think, but agian what do I know, other then I could get into Italy with that.well maybe.

buschy 03-02-2008 06:56 PM

There is a dealer here in the Houston area with at least 8 or more ///M5's on the lot. I remember when you would never see a ///M5 sitting outside on the ramp. They have at least 4 of them sitting outside. IMO that's a bad sign. As everyone else has stated, sales are slow. If you get one, make it a lease. Cause you're gonna take it in the shorts when you try to unload it.....Phil

LeMansX5 03-02-2008 07:17 PM

M5 is 2% over invoice at my dealer. I am sure you can negotiate even more. I have decided not to be 1st year M3 guinea pig.
