leather or leatherette on my 530i, please help...

i purchased 530i sport package 3 weeks ago, now i want to clean the seats, but i can't tell if my seats are leather or leatherette so i dont waste my money on buying expensive leather cleaner/conditioner. how can one tell if the seats are leather or leatherette without getting the list of options installed on the car. below are some pictures of the seats.

Sniff them?

Looks like my leather seats in my 545.

Look at the inside of the pockets on seatbacks or pull the headrest and look at the inside of the material there. If leather, you will see the grain. If leatherette, will look like cloth or naugahyde.

Should be easily apparent.

NOVAX5 08-30-2007 02:50 PM

is there any other way? because i believe all seatbacks are made of different material than the seat itself. and headrests dont show anything. the headrests are powered so i dont know its a good idea to pull them out. thanks.

ok, the seatback pocket is made of different material from the headrests. i pulled out the headrests, it is made of leather. the seatback pockets is some kine of vinyl or something.

Why not run the key at your local stlr? Shouldn't that
tell you all the info? Dunno...

In the meantime, the seating material doesn't look like
its going to miss getting "dressed" for another weekend.
Nice ride and GL,
mD

PS...BMW puts "leatherette" in a freakin 530?! WTF?

do you have prem pkg. If so you have leather.

wangster 08-30-2007 06:04 PM

Leather conditioner isn't more expensive than vinyl conditioner in any event. Lexol is plenty good, and the price of Lexol ~ price of Vinylex.

Ask the dealer to run the VIN and tell you what options are on the car.

If only other bimmer boards had the oh-so-helpful "What Options You Have" thread that we have here.

You can always run a key across the seat. If it scratches its leather. ;)

I can't tell in your pics, but here is a helpful tip

If your vehicle includes these features, it has leather
ZPP Contents 2004-2005
-Universal Garage Door Opener
-Automatically Dimming outside and rear-view mirrors
-Ambient Lighting
-Poplar Grain Wood Trim (2005 standard)
-Lumbar Support (2005 Standard)

Your vehicle has lumbar support but if you have a Build MY 2005 you have that included at no extra cost

AzNMpower32 09-01-2007 10:16 PM

Looks like it has the premium package, so it probably does have leather.

It looks like it has everything you said, so it must be premium package. I totally forget to ask my SA. So, it is Sport Package, Premium Package. Hmm, good to know.

If it has a fold at the stiching/seams (rather than just a stich line), it's real leather.... but sometimes it's hard to tell on sport seats....

Look here for more help: http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthr...t=real+leather
