2008 M6 Opinions
A couple of questions.
The biggie is: manual or smg? is the M6 smg plagued by the same miseries that the m5 was? next: coupe or cab? is the drop top loud at speed (with it up)? has anyone seen an '08 in person? any must-have options? does it feel limber, or like a fast truck (seems a little heacyy to me)? Thanks |
defintely manual if it's the only car you're looking at.
coupe or cab is preference with cab obviously a lot louder. 08 looks the same for the M6. HUD and night vision are must haves IMO. It's a big and heavy car and if you have to spend 120K plus, there are much better cars out there.. Quote:

OK, then, back to the drawing boards.......
I was actually thinking 997 turbo, and my wife loves the Aston. I just don't think the Aston has enough performance. My 14 yr old daughter wants me to get a Viper or a Gallardo. I think I'll just get a F150 and get it over with. |
I vote for the Aston! Just how much performance do you want (or can you use?)?

The BMW, Aston and Porsche are probably more user friendly and easier on the wallet with maintenance than some of the other choices...although I don't think you can go wrong with any on the list posted by SANguru
|
if you can get an Aston...get it, that seems like a no-brainer to me. A M6 is a common-exclusive car, same as the 997tt, but Aston are rare and they look great, in this league practicality should have very little to do with the decision, so it's pretty simply buy what you really like
|
btw the seats in the M6 really hurt my back, I drove one for about 2 hrs and had major back pain and I'm under 25.

uh dude.. aston rare?? There's a Aston dealer locally here in the bay area with 30 cars in stock and they're dime a dozen. It's affordable... |
Well SANguru, I live in Georgetown DC and FL and I have yet to see an Aston V8 Vantage, I see plenty of Bentleys, Maybachs, M5/6, Maseratis etc etc, but never Astons. It might just be the timing, but where I live the Aston is the rarest of the bunch.
|
I probably see more Vantage's than 997tt's around here. A guy in my neighborhood has an m6, and another guy has e55 amg.
iIbecause this will be a daily driver. I can't purchase until after the 1st of the year, so i'm trying to get a shortlist together. Thanks for the input. The wife is still leaning on me for the m6 vert or an aston. I almost bought her a year 2000 DB7 about a month ago for our anniversary, so she's kind of hot for those now. I'm more about go than show. Thanks again. |

Get around Tyson Corner much? There's an Aston dealer there and I used to see them all the time on Rt7, especially in Great Falls and McLean :) Honestly though, considering the group of cars being talked about, I wouldn't consider any of the above mentioned rare... |

I have my 2008 M6. Picked it up at the Welt and its off the ship waiting to go thru customs. I could buy any car I want and while I am very, very partial to BMW, for the price and performance (V10) it is the best car out there. The differences between the 07' and 08' are subtle to say the least. BMW is giving off 4500 from left over 07's and great lease deals. You can save like 600 a month by getting a 07'. For me this did not work as I did European delivery, but if did not than the 07' would be in my garage.
The AMV8 is high on looks and low on performance. The Gallardo is a over Hyped Audi, the Ferrari's are used and they will be high in maintance. You could buy a used Conti GT but they are verywhere in my Neighborhood and my GYM looks like a Benlty used car lot. That being said if you want looks and a car that not too many people have than Maserati just came out with their new coupe and while there are a few 650i's out there, the M6 is still sort of rare near me. Most people dont want the SMG and others think its too much car. If you have any other questions ask away. |
Great car - congrats.
I followed an M6 to work today. I was trying to get the guy to open it up a bit, but he wouldn't play along. I haven't driven one yet - that'll be the test, I suppose. Thanks. |

You could go exotic car shopping on the North Shore of Long Island, just by sitting in the Starbucks on the corner of Bayview Ave and Plandome Road :)
Have a latte' and an Aston :) |
I never drove an M6...but been into one many times...
I like it very much and the sure thing I perfer it on Aston / Continental GT... SL is very good...and also the Porsche... and the other thing...I perfer the coupe myself :) |
There's nothing performance oriented about the Continental GT. At least around here they're all over the place, and same with the M6.
This is gonna be your daily driver right? In that case the M6 and 997 might the most practical in terms of service. Dunno how reliable AM's are, but I doubt there are nearly as many service centers. Good luck and let us know what you do. |

my vote would go to The Ascari A10:thumbup: don't know how much to Ship to the US of A.

When you say Aston Martin vantage v8's. is this what you mean??

2. With the coupe you get two cars for the price of one: a GT and a true Super Car for every day use. If you buy the convertible you get 3 cars for the price of one: a GT, a super car (although a touch slower than the coupe) and a convertible. I'm happy with the convertible but that is a personal choice. Both cars look great IMO. 3. 08 looks fine although I'm not a fan of what they did to the trunk. 4. don't know what the option list is in the US but here they are pretty complete in standard config. I took the Individual package as an option but that seems to be non-available in the US. 5. How dare you asking if it feels like a fast truck :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :thumbdown :thumbdown :yikes: :yikes: Good word of advise: go drive one and you will understand what I mean. PS: as with the Aston: I considered the DB9 before getting the M6 and decided to go for the M because of reliability (seems to be bad on the Aston and very few service points available where I live). Keep us posted on your final choice. |
I went by and looked at an M6 today. I was pressed for time, so I didn't get to drive it. Over the holidays, I think I will go back and drive one.
They didn't have any '08's - just an '07 (black on black coupe). Looked better in person than it does in the brochure. Thanks for the input. |
You are welcomed. Please take enough time when you go drive it. I'm pretty sure you will be impressed with the car and remember ... SMG is something you need to get used to. This system is at its best when you drive the car at warp speed which can easily be achieved with this beast.
Keep us posted on your impressions and final decision. |
Wow, you guys are tough. Not rare enough?? Aston?
What do you propose he get? A Fisker? Audi R8 is my pick. You could say I'm biased, but that car is simply stunning, in every way. It does things that the V8 Vantage cannot, for the same price, and IMO it looks even better. The M6 is hot, too, though. |
I'm going to wait a couple more weeks, and, believe it or not, see what the new CTS-V looks like.
I don't see too many around, and if the runors are right, a s/c pulley swap will get that car to 600hp and beyond. If that is true, it would be a real fun daily driver, that can haul my kids. If that doesn't look good, then I'll do some serious comparo shopping. |
