Just ordered an M5!!!

Hard to get any sleep right now. Just signed the paperwork for my new M5. Should be coming in April/May. Some of the specs are:

Saphire Black
Merino Oxybrown leather - individual
HUD
M6 wheels
Soft closing doors
Alcantara roor lining
Logic 7
TV

Keeping the E53 until the M5 arrives and probably changing the X3 for an E70 3.0sd.
Any opinions about the M5?
This is going to be one hell of a summer:driver: ;)

You have to remember we pay about double what you guys pay across the pond. Also take in mind the USD isn't too strong here right now. My spec set me back approx. 220k USD

NOVAX5 02-08-2008 09:05 AM

hmm, you are driving in our condo. it should have the fridge, couch and bathroom in there too. in asia they pay cash for this thing, thats meaning $330k in cash for an m5 (not $110k, not $220k)

swesson 02-08-2008 09:10 AM

You are going to be one happy camper. All that power! Congratulations!
:zoom:

M-individual 02-08-2008 09:12 AM

Congratulations and welcome to the V10 club. Interesting colour combination you ordered. Should look a bit like my M6.

You have great times ahead of you. It will be April / May before you know it.

The power of the V10 will knock you off your feet and be careful ... it is so addictive. Worse than cigarettes. Just make sure to follow the break-in rules and you will have one hell of a ride.

Enjoy and please post pictures when you get your beast.

Nice move....I thought about a ///M6, but I couldn't bring myself to lay that extra coin on the table, for a ton of power I couldn't use on this busy azz Houston streets. Congrats.......Phil

Or an outdoor parking spot in the Back Bay in Boston

"Sold: 1 open-air parking space in the Back Bay for $250,000
A home for a car may cost a small fortune in Boston

As parking spaces go, it's nice enough. While it's outdoors, the smooth brick paving is immaculate.

That's what an anonymous buyer paid in April for a prized spot tucked in the alley behind 31-33 Commonwealth Avenue in the Back Bay -- breaking the city's record price for a parking space and underscoring the difficulty residents have scoring a spot downtown.

Kathleen Cook, owner of Atlantic Associates Real Estate on Boston's waterfront, said she frequently receives calls from people who live in the Back Bay or near the waterfront who want to be put on a contact list for parking spaces that come on the market.

"There are more people moving into the city, and there's a limited amount of spaces," she said.

Yeah, I'm planning to take the M5 to Germany to the M performance training center. Should give me enough kilometers to cover most of the break in period and learn a few things about handling that baby. The M training center gives you an M car on the track for 2 days with a trainer. Anyone done this?

I've done the M-training here in Belgium. M training came standard as I took my car with the M performance pack (limiter off from the factory). I didn't take the course on the Nürburgring as you get an M3 or a Z4M as a car and these are totally different compared to the M6 (or M5 in your case).

In Belgium they offer an M training on a closed airfield which allows you to use your own car. I can only recommend this. This is the best way to experience what your car can do (and that is more than what you will expect when you start the day). Needless to say that you need to go there after the break-in period and expect to use a set of tires in one day.

I think it is a must for all M drivers to take this course but with their own car. I drove the new M3 last November on a track and that car handles totally different compared to the M5 and M6. You want to do this with your baby and nothing else.

Enjoy and you will have a lot of respect for the car at the end of the day.

Wow, that sounds like tons of fun! Hmm, you're right that BMW only offer the M3 or Z4M. I thought it would be close enough for me, but I guess you are right about them being totally different cars.
I haven't heard of the airstrip version, is it with an instructor?

Remember, the airstrip version is an initiative offered by BMW Belgium (and yes, it is with instructors and maximum 4 cars). It is an M training anybody can do as long as you have proof that you completed the advanced BMW driver training and you own an M model (any M model is allowed). The real advantage is that you get to do it with your own car. Maybe you need to check with BMW Poland and ask them what they can offer but make it a condition that you want to drive your own car.

PS: The day I completed the course our group had 4 M6's (3 coupés and 1 cab). We had a blast and you get so much driving time. Despite the set of tires and one and a half tanks of gas I'll certainly do it again sometime this year. Loads of fun.

Ajogu 02-11-2008 03:06 PM

M-individual, thanks a lot for the info. Your M6 looks great btw! I'm off to my dealer tomorrow to check out what they can offer. I doubt they'll offer anything close to what you got, but its going to be worth the try. Worst case, I'll hit the autobahn and do the German version. At least I'll get a taste of the autobahn in an M\\\. My dealer also said the 250km/h limiter is actually 270km/h cut off. You think thats true?

M-individual 02-12-2008 04:26 AM

Thanks. Good luck and please let us know what they were able to offer you. As you said, if it can't be arranged you will at least have fun with your M5 on the Autobahn driving to the training in Germany. You will sure like that. That V10 will have Autobahn for breakfast, lunch and dinner any day and you will simply love it. Imagine this ... you are doing 210-220 km/h (= cruisin') and there is a slower car in front of you. You brake, shift down from 7th to 3rd (throttle blips are awesome) and you floor it. Awesome. But, as I said, make sure your car is properly broken in as you want to do this trip using at least S5 mode and P507 Sport.

The 270 cut off it right but that is speedo imo and not real GPS speed. If you want more info on this do a search on the M5 / M6 board. There are tons of threads regarding this subject available.

One last word of advice: just be careful in the beginning. The M5 is fast, very fast. The problem is that you don't really notice that you are travelling at high speeds. This is where the M training comes in handy.

Ajogu 02-12-2008 09:28 AM

Damn, I just looove the throttle blips! I noticd them, the 2nd time I test drove the M5 in the rain!
Thanks for the advice, I am not planning to abuse the V10 but enjoy everything it has to offer, hence the M-training.
Considering I still own an X, I'd love to stay on this site but to get more info on the M, I'm planning to join the M5board site. Its gonna be really tough for them to beat this site with all our quality members.

M-individual 02-12-2008 09:35 AM

True but the M5/M6 board won't let you down either. Great members and tons of good info. I'm a member over there as well. Looking forward to welcome you there soon.

Yeah, I saw that video. I think its in Turkey. Wish it was shown at normal speed. Thanks for the link.
