I averaged only 22mpg or so with my 545 with manual. If a 550 was getting 25 on average...amazing.

So I'm thinking of trading in my X5 for something else and the 5 series has caught my eye.

The only problem is I don't want to go into this deal with a blind eye as I did the X5. Had I known then what I know now about X's (thanks to this site!) I would have picked a newer model (2004) as well as a 4.4i.

Anyway, I am going to look at an 06 528xi today. Any opinions on that? I thought I would not go any lower than a 535xi but I really need to be educated first before I take the plunge. I thought what better place than
X5 World even for my non X5 question.

I hope someone can help me with any advice or experience you may have with the different trim levels.

Thanks!
Mari

Hi Mari, did you mean a 2006/7 525xi because the 528i or xi doesn't arrive until '08. In any case like MD mentioned it doesn't snow that much in Philly so I wouldn't bother with the AWD version. Also the 535xi you mentioned is a 2008 model year unless you meant '06/07 530xi. Confusing isn't it?

You don't need the AWD. Like others have said, the 528i designation didn't arrive until this year's facelift. For model years '06-'07, both the 525i and 530i shared the same 3 litre, N52 I6 engine with Valvetronic, just like the E90 where the latter gets a 3-stage intake so it produces 255hp. For '04 and '05, the motor was the ol' fashioned M54 2.5 and 3 litre I6.

Do you mean 2008 528xi? No 528 for 2006. We have a 08 535xi and love the car. 5-series had facelift with 2008 models. 535xi got the twin-turbo engine. 5-series got minor exterior changes, LEDs and X5 style shifter. Minor changes on interior of doors as well. But its the engine improvement which is big. 230hp on 528 and 300 on 535.

hey everyone! :)

yes, i meant a 2006 525xi, oops!

i know it doesn't snow much in the area in which i live, however, my last car (G35) had rear wheel drive and even with little snow i would get stuck.
thankfully there was always someone around to help me. i just remember those annoying days like it was yesterday and that's why i prefer AWD.

unless i get snow tires but i switch out tires now for the X and that gets a bit old for me. right now i am dying to put my 20's on and i haven't had the time yet...hopefully next thursday since monday is a holiday.

MD- hubby is doing as well as expected. he was in a car accident a couple of months ago and banged up his shoulder pretty bad & has not worked since. fortunately he'll be OK eventually and that's the most important thing. :)

HAPPY MEMORIAL WEEKEND EVERYONE!! I love this time of year!

Well, with AWD models, you lose the Dynamic Drive in the sport package. Thus, you really only get the seats and sport steering wheel. And y'all know I'm a big fan of sport package in BMWs.

The car was nice and it has a nice amount of power too, but the interior didn’t have anything over the X5, I would buy another X5 before the 528 or the 535 since the X5 is more versatile!

how did you drive the car? also 25 is more hwy then city. and I think it was like 24.5 or so to be more precise.
My 335 I averaged 27.5
