how do I store my M3?

Hey all,

So I recently bought an X5 so that I can drive my M3 as more of a pleasure/2cnd vehicle.
I'm currently storing it in my garage at home (non heated)
I have not done anything to prep it for storage other than detail it, and jack it up and sit it on styrofoam.

I jacked up the car and sat it back down on styrofoam to hopefully avoind flat spots.

should I do anything else?????

thanks all!

ps, I live in Toronto so temp is below zero for a good few months

Send it down to sunny VA. I'll keep an eye on it for you

if option one is not good, I then try option 2.

When I lived in NY and stored my car in the winter, I typical parked the car on a large sheet of plastic(home depot) then covered by a large scrap carpet(local carpet place always have scraps). A little fuel stable and ~5lbs of extra air in the tires, few moth balls under the car...that was it

Also have the BMW trickle charger connected. If you have rats/mice in your area than stuff the exhaust pipe with cloth or something and leave a note on steering to remove them.

You don't need to jack the car up, modern tires will not flatten if left sitting for a few months. Just over inflate them by 5-10lbs and let the car sit. (I store my Vette for months over the winter, no flat spots)
You can also put some silica gel packets in the car in plastic containers without lids to keep the interior dry.

You should put some stabil in the gas tank and hen take the car for a ride to get the stabil into the engine, then refill the tank to full will 91 octane.

You should also NOT just start the car every now and then and let it run. Unless you can take it for a ride and let the entire power train warm up and get the oil hot enough to boil out the water etc, just let it sit.

What's the purpose of the styrofoam?

:iagree:

Especially about starting it up every month. Just let it sit.

If you are close to needing an oil change, I would do it before putting it in storage.
