I used to (long time ago) run at high speed in the rain and snow. It always depended on the vehicle (my RX7's have always been very well balanced cars) and the tires (good condition, deep tread, good water shedding capability).
But now I do run slower, still ahead of most of the pack, but slower than I used to - simply because I now realize that the chances of hitting a deep spot of water is always there; so why take an unnecessary risk – especially when others are with me. And no matter how great your car and tires, if the water is deep enough YOU ARE GOING FOR AN UNEXPECTED DETOUR.
Those of you who still feel confident enough to continue to run at 80+ MPH, feel free to do so, just be aware of who is around you and what you might slide into if you do hydroplane.
