paging killcrap or other experts
I'll try to keep my long story short, my DME ( Bosch 0261204467 ) unit in my 1997_5 BMW 740i is kaput.
I sourced a used one from ebay. I'm aware of the DME and EWS alignment that is required and only possible from virgin state DME units. However this is where some special knowledge would come in(reading forums online a select few have done this successfully). So, if i install my new(used) DME from ebay can I use my INPA program to read the ISN, so i can then input this ISN password into the EWS module? I am going to be buying this EWS EDITOR however i wanted to make certain that i can first read the password. I'll try to keep this clear as possible, right now, if i use INPA to read my OLD DME unit and go to my DME5.2 and view the coding data from there (F3) the line on the bottom that says ISN for EWS is populated with "3ac". If I do the same with my ebay DME is this the password that i need to put into my EWS with the EWS editor? Are there any other rolling codes that i need to get first? The reason i ask is because when i select the EWS module in INPA and click on ISN PW(F4) it says ecu rejected (keeping in mind this is on the DME that already starts and runs that car) is this because that information is encrypted and not to be worried about? Now, since some of you are the experts and know of a better or easier way of doing this may you let me know of that as well. I had held off on buying the EWS editor in hopes of having some input first. Any constructive info is welcome and appreciated. If anyone would rather private message me their response please feel free! Thanks! |
I should also mention, i already have INPA and a GT1 for programming/encoding vehicle features etc, and i am aware this will not be useful except with virgin state DME.

Hey swissFrank did you pm Killcrap. Sometimes that's the only way to get a hold of him. Good luck with your project.

I'm sure I'm not the only one paging killcrap, unfortunately his inbox is full and i cannot PM or email him. I was hoping he would see this or someone else would chime in. Thanks for the luck. Frank |

anyone? |
Wish I could offer help, but dealing with used DMEs and aftermarket software is not an area of expertise for me... In situations like that I'm better just going at it with programming and diagnostic machines till I get it working, it isn't black and white enough for easy directions. Killcrap would be seemingly better with this... I think he's on other forums as well, maybe you can track him down...?

The easiest way for me, would be to obtain the flash of the blank DME for this Chipset. Then using the correct chip pad, to program the chip directly with the blank . Then use the original bmw software to program the DME with the correct DME programming numbers, and align EWS. If you do not have these tools, i would suggest removing the chip/s from the old DME and transfer to the donor DME.
The EWS editor is a powerful tool. I only use it to reset Milage in EWS/CAS modules when corrupted by Instrument Cluster tampering. And to program new keys made in house. When combined with a KEY programmer, you can write and program your own keys without having to order the keys. The Ediabas package cannot read all information in the EWS module. Depending on the chip installed, you must de-solder a leg before reading the chip. Failure to do so will cause the Chip to be corrupted/unusable. |
Question to Killcrap,
I remember you saying that you are/were able to check the engine part number and see if it's the original or swapped in one. Would you still be able to perform that check up? If so,I am wondering if this number seems like the one needed: 0441/6 1439644 b 99 Thank you in advance |
You know killcrap hasn't posted since Feb 2013?
