I've been searching hard here in oz and overseas for that under ride protection.....and they're really hard to find.

I've asked BMW spare parts here and they didn't think it existed for sale here in down under.:dunno:

yea im bummed its impossible to find. worldwide. i just wished someone that used to have it doesnt want it anymore. or someone somewhere is retiring their e53 and parting it out.

this is going to be the only way to ever find this thing.

keeping my fingers and toes crossed.

let me know if you ever come across one.

have you seen this:
https://www.worldoemparts.com/worldb..._M9RoC9Gfw_wcB

it's chrome but you can have it removed and powder coat it.

and :

do i win a prize?

mikesoops 06-21-2017 03:38 AM

you'll get a prize if they actually have it. i must have contacted at least 5 of those same sites asking if they had it in stock and none came back positive.

I was fortunate enough to snag underride protection from ESS tuning couple of years ago:

i just checked ESS and they dont have much for the e53's but let me know if you ever decide to part out your X. haha

I have all the hardware, half of it's on the x5 still. I left it there in debate of selling under guard or not.

Mine actually looks a little different than most I've seen. Looks the exact same from the front but underneath it's a bit different. It may be out of the UK? As far as price, I don't know? I saw people paying over $1,000 for these that's why I'm thinking of selling lol.

This is right off the x5. Clearly it needs to be cleaned up but this truck was immaculate and the oil stains are brand new from a recent leak, thus the reason it's off in the first place.

oh I see. yours has 5 rails, the OEM one has 6 rails inside. but never the less id still want it. but I wouldn't pay anywhere close to 1000 for it. I dont think its gone for that much since 2008. ive seen people get them for about 300$, but anyway maybe you should keep it?? why did you remove it? also my x5 is slammed. so im not sure how yours will effect the task of going over speed bumps. im sure it will be ok as long as it doesnt sit lower then the mud guards. my mudguards scrape like crazy. if you want to let it go for 300 ill take it. no hard feelings if not. I appreciate you posting a reply here about it though!

there were 2 versions, the 5 bar and then the 6 bar. both are OEM one is just a newer version. they both mount in similar fashion and the hardware was always sold separately and is also NLA.

i have the 5 bar and picked it up for $800 from Craigslist in california and was able to get it over here when a friend was driving back cross country.

you wont be finding that bar for $300 unless you find some random person who has no idea what it is or what its worth and you give them the ole "oh that ole thing you dont need it ill take it off your hands"

You're lucky he didn't bite. Without all the parts needed to mount the thing, it's not worth $300. For instance, you need the replacement protection bracket for the bottom of the radiator.

Without it, there is nowhere on a stock E53 to mount under ride up front. At least that's the way it went with my install a hundred years ago. The part as pictured here is a good start to a years long project of finding the rest of the parts.
