Can you post a picture of the internals of the switch? I'd like to see how much room is in there for some custom work.

Installing this switch doesn't automatically mean your rear foglights are going to work though, right? Don't you still have to run the needed wires and bulbs to make them work? Rear foglights are fine, but I can't stand it when some of these idiots drive around w/ them on perfectly clear nights because they don't know they're on.

You've also mentioned that this is an upgrade for people wanting to go from halogen to xenon...that can be done by simply installing bulbs and ballasts from someone like HIDExtra of DDMTuning. Now if you're implying that someone that installs your headlight switch will suddenly have the auto headlight on/off feature, I think that's going to be impossible. There is a thread floating around w/ killcrap saying that basically all the wiring needed to make a X from normal to auto on/off would run around $800 in parts.

Here is a cool upgrade for someone w/ self leveling headlights, but then again I can't say for sure if this is plug and play then you'd suddenly have addjustable headlights - BMW OEM X5 E53 HEADLIGHTS FOG DIMMER SWITCH AUTO XENON : eBay Motors (item 140394058241 end time Apr-23-10 21:41:44 PDT)

In summary, I think we need a clearer definition of what this headlight switch can do since I don't think simply adding the switch will suddenly give you working rear foglights w/o additional wiring, let alone the auto on/off features that the switch shows.

It's a cool option. Installation procedure is on the homepage. Has to be newer than 11/01 or some other

X5 Meister 03-31-2010 01:38 AM

Then start another thread on it. This has nothing to do with my question to the OP.

I wasn't asking you a question Meister, I was asking my own question to the OP. Did you see your name anywhere in my post? Did I quote your question? Repeat after me..."No, you didn't, James."

I personally would like auto on/off headlights, so if they've found a better and cheaper way of doing it, then I'm interested. If all they're doing is selling a headlight switch for the sole purpose of having rear foglights, then I'm still curious as to if it's still going to require additional work other than simply buying their switch and plugging it in.

Starting to wonder if this was a sarcastic reply or a legitimate one?

Thought we'd posted a photo of the backside of the switch. Either way...

As far as the literal internals of the switch its self, we not have no way to crack open one with out damaging it beyond the point of needing repair.

We apologize for any confusion this has caused.

Best,
Joe

X5 Meister 04-05-2010 04:34 PM

What I need to see are the internals, not the back side. The back plate of switch has 4 little tabs on it that are very easy to press with a small screwdriver and should be able to be opened relatively easily, certainly without damaging it beyond repair.

m5james 04-07-2010 01:51 AM

I agree, it should be able to opened quite easily w/o anything breaking whatsoever. Also, none of my questions have been answered...

juppalgae 06-28-2010 09:39 AM

how difficult is it to setup to wire for the rear fog for x53?
