OBD2 Compliance?
Hi, Is the 2001 X5 3.0d sport OBD2 compliant?
I have the ABS, traction control and brake warning lights on, have purchased an ELM 327 OBD2 interface to read and try and clear the fault codes however it will not connect to the car. The place I bought it from say as the car is a 2001 diesel it may not be OBD2 compliant?? Thanks CrossyX5 |
It is supposed to be OBDII compliant, but in the past there were some programming recalls in the states to ensure they communicate correctly... so you may need to have the DDE programmed. (I'm not sure if they had those same recalls in the UK)
However the ABS/DSC lights are going to have faults stored in the DSC module, not the DDE... so the OBD reader won't read the faults in question anyways. |
Hard to say for a UK vehicle.
1996 - OBD2 required in USA 1998 - OBD2 required in Canada 2001 - OBD2 required for petrol/gas vehicles in Europe 2004 - OBD2 required for diesel vehicles in Europe Since it was required sooner in the USA and Canada, BMW may have elected to introduce the standard for Euro-spec vehicles sooner than the 2004 mandate. Not sure how to tell if it is or not.... |
Thanks Guys, turned out to be a dodgy ABS sensor.
Still no clue on the OBD2 though, oh well :( |
The OBDII sensor you have is for reading engine codes only, it has nothing to do w/ ABS, DSC or SRS errors. You can either buy a set of Peake tools like the FCXII and the RD or head to the dealership.

Thanks m5james, I fixed the problem with the ABS but still cannot get the OBD2 reader to work so I can only assume my X5 does not use that protocol.
Thanks CrossyX5 |
If you were closer, I'd offer to email you my Peake tools. Either way, sounds like you got it figured out. Congrats, and make sure to come to us first before going to the dealership and see if maybe we can help you out.

Maybe your can buy the OBD2 connector diagnostic adapter.
