We will not repeat a Cold War, So say's Palin.

FORT WAINWRIGHT, Alaska - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin left open the option Thursday of waging war with Russia if it were to invade neighboring Georgia and the former Soviet republic were a NATO ally. "We will not repeat a Cold War," Palin said in her first television interview since becoming Republican John McCain's vice presidential running mate two weeks ago.

Palin told Charles Gibson of ABC News that she'd favor including Georgia and Ukraine, both former Soviet republics, in NATO despite opposition by Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. Asked whether the United States would have to go to war with Russia if it invaded Georgia, and the country was part of NATO, Palin said: "Perhaps so."

I've DVR'd the interview for this weekend but my first thought on the question about possible war over Georgia entering into NATO is tough talk. She is a woman and some might fear she is weak if she waivers. Almost a dammed if you do dammed if you don't question.

Fact is if Georgia is entered into NATO we won't be the only ones putting pressure on Russia if they balk. That is the beauty of the NATO alliance.

She didn't interview that great, but she was most likely nervous in her first media blitz interview. Again, I go back to the "Cheney" comment I made. Meaning, VP interviews...pointless :)

Now...will Obama do a town hall debate? Seems like a....NO. :(

MrLabGuy 09-12-2008 04:32 PM

A better answer to the question would have been "NO"...If you understand how NATO works Charles you would understand that any aggression toward Georgia as a member of NATO would bear repercussions by all 26 members of the NATO alliance...Not just the United States.

The first debate, on foreign policy and national security, will be held Sept. 26 at the University of Mississippi and moderated by Jim Lehrer, host of “The NewsHour” on PBS.

The second one will be a town hall debate moderated by NBC’s Tom Brokaw on Oct. 7 at Belmont University in Nashville. All the questions will come from the audience or the Internet.

The third debate, on domestic and economic policy, will be held Oct. 15 at Hofstra University in New York. CBS’ Bob Schieffer will moderate that one.

The vice presidential debate will be moderated by PBS journalist Gwen Ifill and held Oct. 2 at Washington University in St. Louis. The debate formate won’t be resolved until the vice presidential nominees are chosen.
