Debate #2

McCain p0wns Obama

JCL 10-07-2008 10:41 PM

Really? Why?

ZsX5o3 10-07-2008 10:44 PM

yeah I thought Obama was strong.. I missed the first half though :(

Personally, I do not think that McCain's statement of "that one...", referring to Barrack Obama, is offensive, but do think that many media sources will try to play it up, making the case that he slipped and was showing disrespect. (It is this sort of silly nuances that I think we Americans need to go beyond to concentrate on the real important issues... I may be in the minority here).

BTW - What does "p0wns" mean?

I liked the old McCain (the one who lost to Bush)

The new one feels like he's been working too much with Rove on how to win (comes across like a jerk)

AVB-AMG 10-07-2008 11:07 PM

I agree

I agree. After having read McCain's biography several years ago, I thought that his moderate Republican stance was similar to mine. But in the subsequent years he has done too many 180 deg. turns on his positions to appease and cow-tow to the far right-wing of the Republican Party. I think he would have done much better to maintain his original opinions.

McCain came out swinging but really lost his momentum in the end. Obama did a lot of dodging and had a hard time staying on topic on certain subjects. I really like the idea McCain had about the refinancing of these risky mortgages. McCain played it too safe. He had many opportunities to put Obama in a corner but really failed to execute. Obama is witty and does well at pointing out problems but really seems to miss the mark on any realistic solutions for our country's major issues at the moment.

I thought Obama killed McCain. Obama was calm, concise and stuck with his game plan. McCain missed several attempts to catch Obama but failed to make any good points.

Case in point. Early on a woman asked why she should trust either politician because both parties were to blame for the mess we were in today.

Obama started with some honest talk about families faced with economic trouble and how they cut back spending by not going out to eat as often and not buying a new car and that is how they cope and make ends meet. He later in his answer stated that his government would deal with the crisis by spending...Yes spending on health-care and other programs. McCain should have jumped all over that.

One other missed opportunity McCain had was when the moderator asked if the economy would take another downturn once the recovery bill was put into place. Obama said he did not think so and was positive. McCain said he was not sure and it depended on what we (America) did...Here is where he could have said it could get worse if Obama gets elected and taxes the very businesses we need to get on the road to a recovery and jobs creation.

Obama won and in all likelihood will be the next president.
