I'm not sure that anyone is paying attention. Everyone is too busy watching SNL and laughing at Palin. They know a train wreck when they see one.

Biden has YEARS of gaffs on his record. Palin is just a newbie in terms of putting her foot in her mouth.

FDR on TV? JOBS a three letter word...Yell stand up so people can see you to a guy in a wheelchair? That is just this month...Palin has nothing on Biden in terms of speaking flubs.

Eric5273 10-17-2008 02:39 AM

I think the difference is that to the average guy, Biden appears to talk in an intelligent way and seems like he knows what he's talking about. On the other hand, it seems quite obvious that Palin has no idea what she is talking about whether it was during one of those interviews or at the debate.

So to sum up, they are both full of crap, but Biden does a better job at sounding like he knows what he's talking about.

Wagner 10-17-2008 05:10 AM

Again, Palin does not look like a politician.

"We want someone like us" then the average person sees that individual and mocks them :dunno:

Who knows, people cried a river about Bush's first term..then voted for him again. IMO the ridicule that chick has taken is ridiculous. I'm not sure what Biden has done (since his experience far outweighs Obamas) that proves he would be any type of influential leader. Lifetime in the Senate and you see where we are today. If I was picking between these two...I'd rather try something new. I actually think the libbys are in for a big surprise come election day.

I have a problem with that idea in general. The President should not be like a "regular" person. The President should indeed be an "elite" person who is much smarter and much more capable than the average person.

As I said in another thread, would you choose your surgeon or your lawyer based on who you thought was more of a regular guy? Of course not. So then why would you expect any less of the President?

Then you don't like the Constitution. Of the people, by the people..that whole line

You're assuming the same morons you wouldn't trust in your lawyer/surgeon reference.....could pick the right person to be a leader :) Go Paris Hilton and American Idol

I'm pretty sure if you gave the average person a choice to pick their lawyer between a harvard graduate elitest, and a "regular" guy who graduated from a much less known law school, 99% would choose the harvard grad. The question is, why would they not choose their president the same way?

:thud:

One word, Bush :) Harvard and Yale can't get much more Ivy than that..unless you're a gardener.

True, true. I had a friend in high school whose parents went to Yale, so it didn't matter what his grades were, he was going to get into Yale. But that is a very small minority.

But it's not like Bush fooled anyone. When people were asked back in 2000 why they were voting for him, the most common answers I heard were things like "he is a regular guy" or "he looks like someone I could have a beer with". Nobody at all confused him with being an educated elite type.

So with that you just said that the average person will pick someone like them, not elite :dunno: So what were ya talking about in post 10?

My point was that it makes no sense. Apparently people don't think it takes much intelligence to be the president. :dunno:

Oh, OK seemed like you disagreed with your own comments.

Intelligence does not always come from education. I know plenty of dysfunctional, irrational, people who make stupid decisions with a university degree. I also know brilliant people with very little formal education.

Thunder22 10-17-2008 02:04 PM

turning out to be?

3 weeks ago he told a booster to stand up and be recognized... .problem was that the guy was in a wheelchair!

True, but we are talking about the most important job in the world. The person we choose can be both brilliant and have an excellent education. Why do we have to settle for one or the other?

I thought we were talking about the figure head of President?

The president is by far the most powerful individual in the government, and in the world. Just because its been 45 years since a president has chosen to use his power to change things does not mean that they don't have the power. They just need to have the balls too, and apparently presidents #36-43 didn't have any. Or perhaps they saw what happened to #35. :dunno: It still doesn't make the job any less important.

48 years ago...maybe, maybe half a century ago. But not now. Congress by far has taken that sucker by the horns.

Nah...Congress isn't in charge either. The ones in charge are the ones who fund the hundreds of millions of dollars that goes into their campaigns.

Oh like the ones who bought Congress

I'm sure that Congress and the Admins were real concerned because now, they don't know who to take their bribes from.

I think this statement has been true for the last 70 years or so; however, I am afraid the president's role in the world will diminish from being the most important to being one of a group of a few most important/influential people due to the downward trend we've been facing economically and our worsening perception globally. The next president has a monumental task ahead to preserve the status the position has held in the past.
