McCain pulls 68% of military vote

The non-scientific survey gathered 4,300 respondents -- all of them registered and eligible to vote.

A racial divide was immediately evident among the respondents. Nearly eight in 10 black service members chose Obama, while McCain captured 76 percent of white voters and 63 percent of Hispanic voters.
Thought it was interesting that 80% of the black service member chose Obama, while 76% of the white's chose McCain and 63% of Hispanics did. Considering the average was 68%, I would have thought less black service members would have chosen Obama.

Inetresting, but I'm not sure if I would call it racial divide as the article suggest for the following reasons:
1) In previous elections, republican candidates always did better than democratic candidates. They usually pull 2:1 ratio (including the last election where the democratic candidate was the war hero). In this instance, you have a war hero running on the republican side; the ratio should be higher favoring Rep.
2) The poll itself is not scientific since it said that it did not have a representative sample. The data was collected from the subscribers who elected to respond.
3) If we were speak of racial bias, I am not sure where to make the stronger statement?
On the african American side: They voted democratic in that range or higher for quite some time (Gore and Clinton, each got more than 80%). Obama getting 80% from the A.A. military member is lower than I expected, especially since in the same poll, African american stated that the economy was their # 1 issue.

On the White members side: The argument of racial divide (if there is such thing), could be made stronger since Obama is doing much worse than in the general public.

That said, I go back to what I said earlier, there is no racial divide, and those who claim it are looking for headlines.

Mu humble $0.02

The point I wanted to make is that stats don't speak of racial divide, the article does.
The African American comunity votes in similar ratio in every election regardless of who is running. I don't see it as a racial issue I see it as specific comunity identifying more with a particular party over the other.

+3:iagree:

Dang, that 76% white vote for McCain must be because they support the white guy. How RACIST! j/k:D

Stats are stats. And I'm looking at almost the numbers only and their division, none of the commentary.

That said if 68% voted for Obama and only 34% voted for McCain and out of the whites, 20% voted for Obama...wonder how that would be perceived. Doh.

Again, Nov 5th can't get here fast enough.
