$150,000 Wardrobe for Palin May Alter Tailor-Made Image

$75,062 at Neiman Marcus and $49,425 at Saks Fifth Avenue in September for Ms. Palin and her family.

Republicans expressed consternation publicly and privately that the shopping sprees on her behalf, which were first reported by Politico, would compromise Ms. Palin’s standing as Senator McCain’s chief emissary to working-class voters

I learned long ago never question a womans spending when it comes to womens clothes.

Pretty dumb though considering she would look good in clothes from Macy's which would not cost enough to make the evening news.

Quicksilver 10-23-2008 01:13 AM

No argument there.

Wagner 10-23-2008 05:15 AM

Sort of like the 200 dollar haircut Clinton got on Airforce 1 that stopped an airport for an hour (sure that didn't effect anyone) or Edwards and his 400 haircuts.

Wardrobe? That is the argument being used against her now

Psssss: Obama's camp has spent over $450K on meals alone :)

Edwards: We all learned that he was a phony.. No defense for him!

$450K for meals sounds like a lol, but I am not sure how big is the campaign staff, what is the time period this number covers, and how many events are included?

Palin: this incedent is not being used against her by anyone. It is being used against her by her own campaign by portraying a sense of hypocrisy. First they introduced her as a hocky mom and Joe six pack, later to dress her from needless Markup. They are really making sure she does not have a chance in 2012!!

the press coverage this topic got yesterday was ridiculous. To say "they" didn't attempt to use it against her?

:bsflag:

This makes it look like the Obama campaign is worried having to resort to this in the final weeks. I think it makes the complaint the Obama campaign has about petty issues less credible.

Stupid on the part of the McCain campaign but by no means reason to vote against the ticket.

The topic of this discussion is this that they (the campaign) spent more than 150K on her makeover. She is running as a Joe six pack while portraying her opponents as elite. This is not run of the mill contradiction or politics as usual; this is a contradiction to a core them of this campaign.

Let's blame the media for her campaign's stupid behavior!!

I mean seriously, Neiman Marcus... they could not have picked a worse image retailer than that??

PS. In regard to "they" I was referring to OBAMA campaign. On two separate interviews that I watched, they did not want to talk about it. They are smart; an incident like this does not need commentary.

MiCkEy 10-23-2008 04:04 PM

Who cares. It is just money.

She was an average Sarah before she got involved in National Politics. See what High Political Office can do to the average person.

Each step up the ladder is one step closer to total dysfunction. You can see it in our entire Congress and our so called "Leaders"

r_pil 10-23-2008 04:20 PM

but the real question is...would you now bang her?

If I were 13 that would be the "real" question.

r_pil 10-23-2008 04:28 PM

17, and at this age we only think about 2 things....BMWs and hot women!!!!

FSETH 10-23-2008 04:40 PM

$150k on clothes is absurd to just about everyone, but it is honestly such an insignificant percentage of what is spent on Presidential campaings as a whole that it is almost inconsequential. That in itself is crazy though. Literally, what percentage of the overall money spent on a Presidential campiagn would $150k be? 0.00025?

They had to spend the money if Palin were to stand next to Cindy McCain. I heard that Cindy McCain's outfit, including acessories, for the RNC cost $300,000 by itself.

Oscar de la Renta dress: $3,000
Chanel J12 White Ceramic Watch: $4,500
Three-carat diamond earrings: $280,000
Four-strand pearl necklace: $11,000–$25,000
Shoes, designer unknown: $600
Total: Between $299,100 and $313,100

Pretty sure that was her own coin, seeing as she is a multi-multi millionaire

Ah, duh! I am saying that they had to spend money on Palin's outfits for her to keep up with Cindy the fashonista. I'm not suggesting that the campaign paid for Cindy's outfits. She has always been a sharp dressed woman. Can't say the same for Palin.

You can dress her up but you can't take her out.

Werewolf 10-26-2008 04:25 PM

So much for her folksy, just like you campaign.

Quicksilver 10-26-2008 05:00 PM

Give her some clothes, some bright lights, and the big city and just like Jimmy Reed say's it will go to her head.
