for selecting a total partisan hack like Illinois Rep. Rahm Emanuel as White House chief of staff.

So much for reaching out...I guess it really is WHO he associates with who makes the man.

Two strikes left and he's yet to be sworn into office yet. Man this is going to be a long 4 years if this keeps up.

Nicknamed "Rahmbo", the Congressman is well known for aggression and great intensity. He sent a rotting fish to a pollster whom he said sent inaccurate and poorly prepared research to him while working as national campaign director at the DCCC during the late 1980s

We should be happy. Isn't this guy a pretty staunch centrist?

Does "staunch" and "centrist" really go together? Centrist is a position that not too far Left nor too far Right --- the majority of the population would fall into this position :confused:

Hold on MLG...give the guy some time to get established. I'm giving ObeyOneCanoby until Jan 20 before I start remarking. There is a LOT he has to worry about right now and voting present isn't possible :rofl:

I'd say it was a smart pick. At least now there should be no question on how Obama's relationship with Israel will be. Strike One?

"It's just another indication that despite the attempts to imply that Obama would somehow appoint the wrong person or listen to the wrong people when it comes to the U.S.-Israel relationship ... that was never true," said Ira Forman, executive director of the National Jewish Democratic Council.

Forman said Obama's selection of Emanuel helps build confidence that the United States will be vigilant in responding to any threats to Israel posed by Iran.

"Rahm has certainly never been accused of being too naive or not decisive in his analysis of these types of issues," Forman said.

Here and around the world, the selection brought swift reaction. The Web site for the Israeli newspaper Haaretz on Wednesday was filled with articles on what an Obama presidency would mean for Israel. The top story, on Emanuel, noted his deep Jewish roots.

Democratic officials who disclosed Emanuel's acceptance did so on the condition of anonymity to avoid angering Obama's team; it had not planned to announce the chief of staff position on Thursday.

In offering the White House post to Emanuel, Obama turned to a fellow Chicago politician with a far different style from his own, a man known for his bluntness as well as his single-minded determination.

House GOP leader John Boehner of Ohio called Emanuel "an ironic choice for a president-elect who has promised to change Washington, make politics more civil, and govern from the center."
