I'm not into all the details of all this stuff, but as far as I've read into it...700 billion to AIG and friends no question asked.
The auto makers ask for a comparable drop in the bucket and they want to know every little detail.

Different industries; Big 3 are sinking ships with infection and have been like that, more or less for several years, nothing new with their losses and bad management. Giving big 3 the money now without any questions means they will be back in 6 months for more. AIG stuff is new and its financial industry.

They could argue the global financial crisis pushed them over the edge. Again, Ford is far more soluble then they are letting on.
