Obama administration frustrated by old White House PCs
 

I Know somebody is going to turn this into a raging political discussion.
So I decided why not put it where it will end up in advance....;)

Just after President Barack Obama took to the world stage and spoke before millions of people on the steps of the Capitol building,
his staff began the Herculean task of trying to get the nuts and bolts of the White House in proper working order. Of course,
one of the first orders of business is getting the computer systems up and running.

It's well-known that Obama himself is a Mac fan, and not surprisingly, his campaign staff was largely
powered by a fleet of Macs as well, but according to The Washington Post , the Obama team waltzed
into the White House, only to find "computers outfitted with six-year-old versions of Microsoft software."
Disappointing? You bet. Furthermore, "Laptops were scarce, assigned to only a few people in the West Wing.
The team was left struggling to put closed captions on online videos."

Here's to hoping that one of the elements of Obama's mantra of change will be getting rid of those ancient PCs and replacing them with some shiny new Intel Macs.

Better yet, 1 Infinite Loop should outfit the new president with his very own MacBook Air One, pronto.

I know the people who support those PCs/networks as well as DOD, Pentagon etc. Don't think its entirely upto Obama team. The networked PCs/Macs have to talk to other sensitive networks. NSA will have to give clearance before they do that. Same NSA who opposed BB for Obama. ;)

Pretty tough situation, incoming team is really productive using technology and have to give certain things up, some probably forever. I would be fustrated beyond belief if it happened to me while at the sametime understand why the restrictions and specs are so different inside the Whitehouse. Moreover, they can't use this as an excuse for poor execution but you know it's got to hurt.

I'm trying to picture the DoD using Macs. :rofl:

I can see why they try to minimize the use of laptops. They are just too portable and you know some idiot staffer will lose one or have one stolen from his/her car. :tsk:

Parts of DoD do :) And very, very well.

I would think that some of the government BS would vaporize if they were to switch, but whatever. But come on. 6 years old? WTF.
