10% or $55 billion in de-stimulus form - how many jobs will be cut by defense contractors?

Operation KILLEMWITHKINDNESS and Operation STUPID underway.

Operation KILLEMWITHKINDNESS and Operation STUPID underday.

I guess firing those contractors/staff is "good" for the economy :dunno:
More Clinton-esque moves. Shouldn't be log now till an embassy gets bombed.

I sure hope you are wrong about the bombings but our enemies are probably happy we are pulling away from defense spending and see us as psychologically vulnerable more now than ever with the reputation democrats bring. Deserved or not.

I seem to remember Clinton cutting defense spending like crazy too...and then what happened 9 months into W's first year in office -- Sept. 11.

Let's just hope nothing like that happens again.

alewifebp 02-01-2009 12:29 AM

Well Clinton had 8 years to erode our defense. Obama may only have 4. :D

From your lips to Gods ears...:D

I am far from an expert on this, but the announced cuts caused me to go do some reading.

Did Obama not promise to cut spending on the military prior to getting elected? If so, does he get points for actually doing something he said he was going to do?

Does this 10% cut reduce spending to something that is still above 2007 levels (not counting two wars, which get supplemental funding)?

At a time when the one thing that is clear is that spending is exceeding revenues, creating huge debt, even before we consider the impact of the various stimulus packages, doesn't all spending have to be cut? Isn't military spending one of the larger items in the current spend, and therefore one of the obvious places to look?

I don't know if these cuts are more about homeland defence, or weapons development, but it will be interesting to watch as it plays out. I am just not sure how this is a breakdown of power.

How will the Pentagon ever do with only $450 billion per year. That is scarely more than twice as much as the rest of the countries in the world put together. Clearly we need to spend quite a bit more than that to be safe.
