I heard Solzhenitsyn said that when they announced that Stalin had died, people in the gulags cried for him, even though he put them there. They did not think he was personally responsible, or he somehow didn't know about them personally being there, and that if he did, he would have fixed it.
That kind of rationalization gets people willingly oppressed. I'm considering reading The Gulag Archipelago for the psychological/ leadership insight. |
I don't understand these numbers at all. The popularity rating makes sense, everyone is still in the honeymoon period but the wrong direction makes no sense. Maybe it's a poling or data anomaly? Regardless, I think the clouds will clear and it will become apparent to a bigger portion of the population that the whole budget thing and the massive debt are really bad. That business will pull back from investment/risk, and the 70's era of inflation could return in harsh ways. We can't hope our way out of that. I predict that as more people wake up to this reality they will be less supportive of congress and the whole big government plan.
