New Sydney Australia member.

Hi all,

Just checking in, I Stumbled on this forum in my travels and I thought best get to know the locals first!

My name is Kurt I'm 27 years old and I'm from Sydney NSW.

I will be picking up my 2006 E53 D Sport in about a weeks time (unless it is ready earlier)

I am unsure what else to say but G'day! I'm sure to be frequenting here from now on as I do with all my car forums of interest.

This is my first BMW I'm rather happy about the car, I hope it's good to me!

Cheers!

Kurt

G'day Kurt. Welcome aboard. I trust the 3.0d treats you well. Are you buying off a dealer, or private? Also, how many km? I presume it's an auto and not the six-speed manual?

Hey mate.

Yes dealer (it's just a lot easier for us that way as it's going to be run through our business & we traded a car too)

It is indeed an Auto, I prefer that for towing and daily duties.

Car has 62,000km's on it, I had them put the premium selection warranty on the car as well (12 months deal) Mainly because my other option was a base model with less K's and the 'premium selection warranty' So I wanted to ensure we negotiated a relative deal on this one... And that we did.

The service history presents well, over its 60,000 odd km's it has been serviced on average every 13,000 ~

Kalahari Beige with grey/black leather.

Can't wait really! We have an E90 320d as well, which steered me into this direction! BMW diesel power plants are just very impressive I think!

As I said I hope it doesn't give me headaches, I owned a **wait for it** 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee in the past... it was nothing but headaches, I don't want to walk that path again!

Cheers

The diesel is definitely the way to go given its combination of performance and economy. The two petrol engines also require either 95 or 98RON which, as you know, is expensive here.
The Premium Selection thing is also a good idea. First up, cars with an iffy service history aren't offered as Premium Selection, plus you have peace of mind if something goes wrong. 62,000km is also a lowish milage for an '06. All sounds good to me.

Yeah approximately 12,000km's a year is good.

A lot of the cheaper ones had lot's of mileage...it seems like in that vintage it is hard to find one with under 80,000 km's!

I shall report back once I take delivery.

Cheers.

congrats on your purchase Kurt! dont forget to post pics once you have picked it up.

i was very close getting a E53, but ended up a E70 3.0d with 7 seaters cos it is a lot roomier and more practical.

Ok

Finally got around to picking it up Saturday afternoon.

Sorry no pics of it as I was simply too busy driving it!

From picking it up on Saturday afternoon to last night I put 500 km's on it!

Took a nice long drive yesterday through the southern table lands and then to Kiama on the south coast, back up to the rocks for dinner last night.. great day!

There was a moment of panic there though, as I was first driving it on the freeway a warning light came on the dash and TBH I shit myself because I had no idea what it was? When I stopped and pulled out the manual turns out it was the tyre pressure indicator phew! difference in tyre pressures or leaks cause it to go off (apparently) now I know that it just had 2 brand new front tyres put on as that was part of having the premium selection package, So I put my money on the fact they probably had different pressure front to rear.. pulled into the first place that had a TPG and surely enough there was a 4 PSI discrepancy front to rear. I levelled up the pressures reset the lamp and it did not come on in the 300 km's further we drove. So I will double check the pressures in a few days to make sure they are holding pressure.

long rant for a minor issue I know.. but you can imagine when your unfamiliar with a new car and a warning light comes on right? lol

A know it's an extra expensive but if I was you I buy two you tyres so that all four are the same. This is a full-time 4WD vehicle and it will always be happier with four tyres in as close to identical condition. The trouble is that once you get into the cycle of two older tyres and two newer tyres you'll always be repeating that cycle as you replace two tyres at a time.
