First oil change E70 LCI??

Took my MY10 build in for its first 'service' yesterday (5000kms), and no oil change was done by BMW. I was expecting as much, so not surprised.

Now there is 12 month / 15,000kms before the next service (presumably with oil change)

I would be interested on peoples thoughts on if it is worth getting an oil change done at an independent mechanic now?

I am on the corporate program with BMW and if i do get an oil change done at this time will not record it in the service book (as i want to keep only BMW service for the first 3 years in case we want to upgrade with BMW later)

What oil do these use? How many litres? How much is an oil filter?

thanks

IMO if your planning to keep a vehicle for the longer term then regular servicing is important if you want in this case your BM to reward you. I change my oil and filter every 10ks as I plan to keep my 05 diesel for a long time yet, if my turn around was four years I wouldn't be so diligent. With the oil filters I purchase MANN brand who make filters for BMW, I pay $48 for an oil filter and $58 for an air filter way under BMs price. www.hvfs.com.au As for your oil I don't know wether your X is petrol or diesel.

Yeah if you plan on keeping it, I am all for old school maintenance!

Oil & filter every 5-10k is a good idea IMO, especially for a TD
