Door Carrier Handle

Hi Folks, I've done a bit of searching here in the Aus forum but couldn't see what I needed.

Has anyone had to change their Drivers door carrier handle and if so how much did it cost and from where?

My 04 3.0D Sport's driver door went the other day and after seeing the pricing for the part in UK and US I was shocked (but not surprised) that Oz dealers want $298 for the part! I checked out http://www.parramattaprestige.com.au and they quoted $220 and have a request out to ASV too.

Alternately does anyone know a good wrecker? I am not fussed about a 2nd hand part for a door handle

Hi Rampant Lion,

I have mentioned this in a lot of posts, but I get all my parts from PartsAgent in QLD Audi, Mercedes, BMW and Volkswagen Car Parts Online | Parts Agent. Talk to Cliff and he will get the new OEM parts for you at about the 1/3 of BMW prices.

Regards,
Rob

No probs.. He usually responds within a day. If not, then give him a call (his mobile is on the web page).

Good luck with the door handle. Touch wood, I haven't had to do that job... yet.....

I did mine about 3 months ago. $#@! of a job. I got my part off a shop on ebay, came the next day and put it in, but what should take 2-3 hours took me 7. Never again. Getting everything to line up is not fun when you can't see everything easily. Good luck

Not really, if you're doing it for the first time it's just case of understanding how the carrier fits. My one word of advice would be to start in the morning. I started later in the afternoon thinking it would take a couple of hours and when the sun went down it made it very hard.

If I was doing it, I would also take lots of pictures before starting to pull the other one out.. least you would have some info to go on when re-installing.

Cheers folks, ended up getting the part from here: https://bimmerbarn.com.au for $75 ($15 for next day delivery). Not OEM but also not $298!.

Will report back once installed.

OK guys did this today. It took 1.5 hours going slow with 20min stuffing around with alignment. After I had completed I did think the solution to getting proper alignment was to trace the existing positioning with a pencil/texta before removing the broken unit and matching the replacement part to this.

Other observations are found here in the how-to post.
