Out of interest - is your car garaged ? I am just curious if these worn items get damaged by weather extremes if parked outside.

I doubt if keeping the car garaged will extend the serviceability of cv boots
outer boots are made of rubber , some inner boots are made of plastic .
I think the deterioration begins from the inside due to the grease which gets hot and liquid .
same deal as the crankcase vent hoses rotting due to hot oil mist .
parking near electric motors will rot rubber rapidly due to ozone being produced .
parking near any sort of electrical field can have other dire consequences for the car . it can prevent the key remote from communicating .

X5 CPE is an unknown quantity at this point
Had my outer's changed twice now, well, not mine as they are beyond repair, but the X5 was fitted with cheapo rubbish as a quick fix by the previous owner.

Got heavy duty ones installed and only when I got a CV joint failure did I swap the boot as it was included on the assembly.

Double check they packed the joints with CV grease specifically, the reason mine failed as the indy is in fact a retard...

Any way to check rather then asking as we all know the answer :-)

Hmmm, difficult one without removing the metal bands that hold the boot in place, then replacing them to a good standard to keep all the grease in.

If you get a chance to 'look interested' it might pay to have a look when its being done, that said not all indy's are like my ex-indy
