I see that your tranny died at 308,000. What were the symptons. What did the rebuild entail and how much?
I'm at 255,000 and somewhat apprehensive that if the tranny goes I might just part it out.

Yes, there is a difference. I think you have to deal with the motor next to the firewall. That is the reason to take off intake manifold.

There are several hoses. There is one that comes off of the OS to the
dipstick. Mine rotted off. The replacement has more insulation as it is
near the motor. The other ones go into the motor.
