I've had my X5 3.0sd (your35d) since April 08 over here and before that a 535d for 3 years.

No engine problems at all despite the remap on my 535d

My 535 had been DMS'd. It was awesomely quick, but almost too quick for everday driving if that makes sense. I would give it beans too often and then be going far to fast which could be a bit silly....

It wasn't however draining the battery it was just setting the light off !
