The spacers are just for a wider stance because I used 9.5' rims all round so I can rotate tires. Absolutely no clearance issues at all !

I think 285 50 20 would also fit as there is still space...

Does the other side work ? Like I said, it's probably the heating mat itself. From the research I have done it seems that they short out and stop working. You will probably have to replace it.

The hissing problem has developed on my car also now. It seems to go away over about 3k rpm. I think there is also more lag now at lower revs. I haven't got round to changing the vacuum hoses yet...

I guess it's possible, but it's strange that it happens at 2200 rpm, below that it stays warm, even at 2100 rpm, then if I take it to 2300 rpm it starts to cool. Back down to 2100 and it starts...
