The sixes are nicer, I think.
To me, the heart and soul of BMW (the company and the car) is the venerable inline six.
It pisses me off when some yahoo advertises a BMW as having a "V-6". A V-6 is packaging and manufacturing...

Yokohama versus Michelin Primus
I did the Yokos this time around as they were $160 a tire and the Michelin MXV4 Energy tires were like $260.
I went on tire rack the other day and searched by SIZE and not by car, and found a...

Back in the day....
Back in the day, a local dealer (and I am sure a lot of others did this) would take a new car, disconnect the speedometer/odometer (easy to do back then) and then let his wife drive it (or himself,...

Yuor experence is typical
My family was in the car business. My Grandfather owned (with his brothers) a Buick dealership in New Jersey.
Your experience is not atypical. Why is this? Well, buying a brand-new car simply...

Dealer Retail or Private Party Sale?
Was that a dealer retail price, or a private party sale? There is a spread of about 20-30% if not more, between the two.
A lot of folks simply don't "get" this, and it always irks me when someone...

Bake pads and "warped rotors"
This was a common problem with the E36.
Sometimes, when braking, the wheel would shimmy, and it was very annoying. A lot of people complained about this.
Opinions differed as to the cause. ...

Works just fine....
It works just fine. Like I said, it makes a great tow vehicle. Good control, very stable, and even corners nicely. Of course, it pays to have the trailer properly balanced, with at least 10-15%...

Good Point....
That is of course a good point. If you are shopping for a car, you don't want one that has been raced or used for towing or other hard use.
This is why I shy away from "modded" cars, as usually...

You have smaller hands than I do!
My big meaty shiitehooks could not fit underneath!
I did the replacement as a preventative measure. The valve part was pretty gummed up.
The replacement hoses are all insulated, which is...

Beats me.....
My comments were directed toward the earlier models which have a New Process Gear case, which is strictly mechanical.
That case sent 30% of torque to the front wheels. The Xdrive cases in later...

This is an interior trim piece.
As you know, the rear seats of your X5 have a reclining adjustment that allows the seats to recline as much as in one of those turboprop commuter planes. In other...

A nice '06 was on eBay the other day. My dream car - six cylinder, six-speed manual. Heated seats, no navigation, MANUAL air conditioning controls, and a trailer hitch (!!) no less. 118,000 miles....

Another source of whistling
The cyclone (oil) separator plumbing (and there is a lot of it) can leak and cause a whistle.
Some have likened it to a "chewbacca noise" when the car shuts down.
I replaced all of that (the...

It could be done, but new axles are cheaper
I thought about this as well, as the AWD seems to suck gas and the CV boots tend to tear in the front.
However, an entirely new axle assembly (both CV joints, shafts, etc) is about $75 a side, so...
