The ibus is what controls the on/off, power is on the normal supply circuit, but it is ibus controlled.

At a guess id say the mk3 is failing. Id just replace it with a mk4, its a much better unit....

We in the uk dont have the in-line surge protector loom (box) so I cant say for sure, the surge box was mostly used in the USA not Europe as BMW USA were sick of replacing nav units when the power...
