Help Diagnose - CCV Problem?

New to me E53 x5 owner trying to diagnose issue. Symptoms- white smoke on cold startup & Yellow sludge under oil cap.

There appears to be no oil mixed in the coolant when I removed the radiator...

Didn't need to replace any sensors, cleaned the contacts on the modules, plugged everything back in, and it works!
