Adding sirius to an older system

I understand it is possible to hook up sirius by changing out the old radio, has anyone had any luck with this as just plug & play or is it more technical? and if possible anyone have one they are...

I have a 2001 740i with the version on the setup menu reading SW 2.1.30 this is apparently a Mk2 from what I read is there a benefit to uprgade, what are the differences and if so is Version 29 the...
