Did you ever find a solution to this? I am in the same position on a 2001 740iL with mk3 and v16 software. Tried to update to v26 and it asks for a v17 or cdkey and I've tried burning both form...

Trouble with E38 update

I found a thread describing how to update my MK3 to V26. It even included CD Key image since I was starting from V16. That cdkey is not working and the nav computer is stuck on a screen that says...
