I use the w/o 3rd mat with my 3rd row equipped...
I use the w/o 3rd mat with my 3rd row equipped car as well. And while I rarely use the 3rd row, I find that I have to totally remove the mat when I want to use the 3rd row as it doesn't fold up well...

If you get the optional third row, the 2nd row seats can be moved forward and backward to adjust legroom between the 3rd and 2nd row, in addition to being able to adjus the reach pitch of the 2nd row.
