Diesel in the US is a lot dirtier than in Europe. Sounds like bad fuel to me. Try a different petrol station I'd say.

I can see the hitch without zooming, it makes backing up to the trailer really easy.

Fact remains it takes away a lot of the feel at speed. Having had cars with and without it, I am happy to be without it now, but it is a personal preference..

Not so cool feature.

I noticed that when you open the door while driving, the 'box goes into park.
Not so handy when you try to stick your head out the door when reversing a trailer.

I've had active steering before on an E60....

I've had active steering before on an E60. Although it makes parking easier, I found it took away lot of the feel at speed, so i didn't opt for it this time.

On both my E60 and my Range Rover there were additional halogen flashers, so there can't be any legal issues.

Does anybody have them working?
