Finally got this tracked down and fixed on my X5....

Finally got this tracked down and fixed on my X5. Turned out to be the hood hinges were slightly misaligned or something and causing the hood to make noise when going over bumps/turning/or anything...

I'll also chime in and says thanks to Tom for this solution. My 2000 X5 4.4 with only 89k miles shredded the driveshaft splines just like in the pics, and his solution worked for me and saved money...

I guess one other idea would be to check the CV boots for leaks. When they break the grease drops all over the wheel area.

Not sure really. I luckily so far haven't had this problem on my 2000, but have just read about it in other threads. Might want to check with one of those folks who have actually had the problem.

I went with Kumho Ecsta STX. Tread rating is like 420 I think, but they feel just as grippy as the Diamaris. Noise level is similar, maybe slightly less. Cost is less. Overall these get a pretty good...
