The N62 has 2 diaphragms in the crankcase vent system - one in-line on the vent tube for the right bank and one mounted in the valve cover for the left...

Great point and one I should have mentioned. On the 4.8i, this gasket actually serves a purpose; it sits between the oil cooler thermostat housing and the block. Not the alternator bracket.
