Well, on highway truck engines all start off with regular oil change intervals, often 12,500 or 15,000 or more miles (my experience is with the yellow ones from Peoria, but other brands are similar)....

No, they don't need to be changed. You are certainly free to do so, and many owners decide they want to do more frequent changes, but 100,000 miles is the design point for most of the driveline...
