i had read that the splined end going into the TC can get stripped

not sure if that would cause these exact issues though

i tried this test and there was no weird sounds.

i suspected wheel bearings since they are original at 235,000miles

BUT, unplugging the transfer case eliminates the noise completely

Happy holidays folks!!

2006 x5 4.4L e53

Recently had some road noise only with foot off the accelerator

Sounds like whirring tire noise

Unplugging the transfer case resolved the noise.
