I don't think 17"s will fit over the brakes. Diesel has bigger brakes than the gas I6. And V8 has even bigger.

Pull the hard drive and see if the CIC tries to boot up. I seem to remember a bad HD will prevent booting and removing it and seeing the BMW logo indicates a bad HD.

When I replaced mine, I re-used the old cables that my car came with. It was a lot of extra effort to get them attached in the confined area under the car. I would recommend you use the new cables....
