What are the best 18" replacement tires (X5)
I may need replacement of my 255/55/18 Michelin Energy's on my 2001 3.0i this year. I use dedicated winter wheels with Blizzaks for snow wheels, so I don't need tires that perform in the snow and ice so much. I am looking for a 3 season tire that performs well (on dry and rain), wears well, is quiet an comfortable and has a good grip. All this and hopefully a good price, too!;)
What are we recommending these days for such a scenario?? |
Ask here. http://www.tirerack.com/shoes/

Most popular tires include Bridgestone Dueler HL Alenza and Goodyear Fortera Triple Tred (for comfort and quiet, avg. life of 50K miles), or the Michelin Latitude Touring HP or Pirelli Scorpion STR (for performance, avg. life of 35K)

I know this is an old thread, but Goodyear Fotera TripleTred's are mentioned as a replacement tire. I am looking hard at these for my 2001 4.4i (255/55/18), as Tire Rack reviews give them high marks (Much higer than the Michellin MVX4's that came OEM).
I got 68K out of my Michellin's (ok, they are the original shoes and should have been replaced at least 10K ago, but have done fine for my 3 mile drive to work) but have never been impressed with their grip in rain, and god forbid, snow (we do get qite a bit of that stuff here). I was hoping that from experience someone had purchased the Goodyears, and if they experienced any issues with them. Thanks. |
i also find that the OE michellin's have rather poor snow performance. I'd like to look for another all season tire for my 4.4 with 18's.
