toyo proxes vs. Diamaris

I'm looking to purchase tires for the X. I was leaning toward Diamaris, but my local tire dealer is offering some pretty attractive pricing on the toyo proxes s/t. A set of 275/40zr/20's and 315/35zr/20's are on sale for $773.00. ( price does not include mount/balance ) I haven't heard much negative on the proxes other than they were a little noisey. Anyone think the Diamaris are worth the extra $$?? It would be nice to save a few dollars to put toward other mod's.

You should try searching. I think there's a certain brand that folks were complaining about not lasting very long, but I'm not sure if it was the Toyo's. I have the Diamaris (19s) and love 'em.

Get the Diamaris, very good tire..many people experience the Toyo's getting loud when they wear. In Japan, where Toyo is domestic, it is considered to be a junk brand.

Diamaris vs. Toyo

When looking at X5's I tested a 2003 with new Toyo Proxes. they were incredibly noisy at in town street speed, so bad I rejected an otherwise clean car.
Now I have bought an 04 with diamaris with about 1/3 of the tread worn. they are very quiet.

I decided on the Diamaris, it's the tire I wanted in the first place.

I need new tires and tried to get the Diamaris but my dealer told me they were discontinued. WTF. Should I get the replacement model?

Did you try other sources? They may have been discontinued for new BMWs but I think you can still get them. Have you tried our sponsor - The Tire Rack?

you may also want to try the new Michie Latitudes. They are rated just as high as the Diamaris

broknlgs24 04-05-2007 11:37 AM

i have the toyo's and never really noticed any "noise." then again,
i listen to the radio most of the time and i must say that the road
noise is louder than the radio.

I think Michelin discontinued them all together and I don't think it worth ordering them from the states due to the shipping charges.

I think the Latitudes are the replacement model. Those are the ones I'm getting. Apparently they have a higher speed rating. The tread pattern is not as attractive but still that's something I can live with.

I have the toyo's and have been very happy with them so far but I also only have less than 3k miles on them. I have not had a chance to drive a lot with them with the windows down. Still too cold in Wis. for that. Mid 20's for the high today but it is sunny.

I couldn't get the Diamaris and the Latitudes are ugly and all season with the same speed rating so I splurged and bought the PZero ROSSOs. Hope this was the right choice.

Have you looked at the Yokohama Advans?

I did,

The way my source explained it to me is that the v type groove in the tread design is what makes a tire more or less noisy.

Batm4n 04-08-2007 04:52 AM

I just checked tire rack and there doesn't seem to be Toyo's in stock.
The Diamaris are still there and the Yoko Advans.

What's peoples opinions on the Advans? I just picked up a set of OEM 20's and I haven't seen much feedback on it.
Can't be louder than driving on snow tires right now.
