22" wheels and don't really like

Hi there everyone. I purchased a set of 22" Asanti wheels. They are 22 x 10.5 all around with 285/35/22 tires. I mounted them today and the rear don't fill up the wheel well as much as I would like. I don't understand how the 20" wheels that I had on filled up the wheel well so much more. They were 265/40/20 in front and 315/35/20 in rear. I realize that the tire is wider on the rear from my 20" wheels than it is from my 22" wheels but they are both 10.5 in rear so I don't understand why so much different. I guess my question here is, would I be able to get a wider tire in the rear fill up the wheel well or is there a difference in the wheel width of the 20" (4.8is style) wheels than the Asanti wheels?

Thanks in advance to anyone who chimes in.

:worthless: Maybe you need rear wheel spacers?

mig1980 07-15-2007 04:47 PM

How thick could I get a set of spacers on the rear and still have the bolts grab good? Any ideas? Thanks.

It's probably the offset if the width is the same and the wheel looks significantly more narrow. You need less offset wheel or big spacer, and depending on how big that could be bad. My mechanic said he doesn't recommend anything more than 10mm but I've seen guys run 25mm (granted it was on a gutted MkII Golf lol). Good luck.

I'm thinking I need at least a 20mm. More like a 25mm spacer because it needs to come out about 1". Has anyone done this before? Would this be a good idea? Thanks again.

99.75 mm --> sidewall height of your 22's
110.25 mm --> sidewall height of your 20s'

That is why.

The height is not the problem. I love the height. It is how far the wheel comes out that is a problem for me. It doesn't fit flush with my quarter panel.

I'm going through the same thing with asanti rite now!!! i'm running 22 x11 in the rear and there tucked. i think it looks like shit but asanti said they built them to spec. I think there spec is for a 4.4 not a 4.8 so i'm putting spacers on for now. i'm going to try to get asanti to build me two new rears .But i'm not going to hold my breath.

You are completely right RC. They tuck and I don't like that either. I have a 4.4i and they still tuck. Did they tell you if they were a different offset in front than the rear? They are great looking wheels but I am going to end up putting spacers on mind as well. What size spacers will you be using and where do you plan to purchase them from? Also, what size tire are you running in the rear? Just curious as to input. Thanks.

R.C.: Those are 22x11s? I think you guys are experiencing offset issues....... that shot from the rear of R.C.s' ride does not look good.......

vinuneuro 07-16-2007 06:46 PM

Screw offset. Those are not 11" wide wheels.. not even close.

I have 30mm spacers from my old 3 that I michined down and drilledout to fit. Just got bolts today 60mm x 14mm. The rears are 315/35-22. I'll post some pics as soon as i get her back from the dealer. One more thing do your fronts come to the edge of the fender?

R.C. 07-16-2007 08:36 PM

sorry the rears are 315/30-22

mig1980 07-16-2007 08:38 PM

My fronts come out to the edge. I will take pictures so you guys can see. I have 10.5" all the way around on mine. Would running 30mm apcers be safe? Where did you get the bolts from? Thanks.

I dont no how much room you have but 30mm is just over an inch. If I didn't have those spacers all ready I would get the ones from H & R.

mig1980 07-17-2007 12:57 AM

Thanks for the info. When do you plan on installing the spacers? Could you post some pics of the wheels with the spacers at an angle from the rear to see how much of a difference it makes and what they look like? Thanks.

As soon as I get the truck back there going on! It's been in the shop for over a week and a half now with air ride problems and they still can't fix it. What wheels did you get from asanti?

mig1980 07-17-2007 12:23 PM

I got the AF132. What model do you have? Looking forward to seeing your X with the spacers to see if that is the route I am going. Thanks.
